Kitsch of the Rainforest

I recently watched the Swiss movie Bruno Manser – Die Stimme des Regenwaldes.
The official English title is Paradise War – The Story of Bruno Manser.
The actual translation would be "Bruno Manser – The Voice of the Rainforest".
I guess. Yeah. That is corny.
Manser was a Swiss activist fighting for the Penan, indigenous people threatened by the lumbering of the rainforest.
He certainly was a hero and it's fine that the director portrayed him as such.
But my God, are the pictures gaudy. The rainforest is romanticised to no end.
It just doesn't look real. It's "Paradise" alright, because there's no paradise on earth.
The music by Oscar-winning composer Garbiel Yared doesn't help either.
Obtrusive and overly sentimental.
It's astonishing how a movie about a serious and very real topic can fall victim to cliché-ridden plot points, love story and villain included.
A disappointment.
But what am I complaining about?
Having watched the trailer beforehand, I shouldn't be surprised.
